The County Championship always sees some players from India turning up. However, this time around, the representation is higher compared to the recent seasons. Even some of the uncapped cricketers such as B Sai Sudharsan have also managed to clinch a County deal. The good thing for India is that some of the dropped cricketers are in fine form. These players will further increase the competition for places in the Indian Test Team. Here, we take a look at two dropped Indian cricketers who are in terrific form in the County Championship 2023.
1) Karun Nair
Not just the Indian Team, Karun Nair was even dropped from the Karnataka Team for the last domestic season. He failed to play even a single game in the last Ranji Trophy. For a player who is one of India’s only two scorers of a triple century, it has been a drastic downfall in his career.
However, his recent performances in the County have put the focus back on him. While he showed hint of this form in the KSCA Maharaja T20 Trophy, it appears that he is well and truly back in form. He has already played some good knocks, including a century. He seems to have put a lot of effort in returning to his peak self. India’s middle-order is still shaping up in Tests and you can never rule out anything.
2) Cheteshwar Pujara
Pujara is one of the dropped Indian cricketers who are in terrific form in the County Championship 2023. Captain of Sussex, for a few seasons now, Pujara has been consistent in this competition. It is no different in the ongoing edition, as well.
Recently, Pujara was dropped from the Indian Team. For Sussex, he has already scored more than 600 runs, including three centuries. It is a terrific performance by the Indian No.3 in foreign conditions. India might need his services if there are any injury issues in the future.
