Chennai Super Kings surprised many by winning IPL 2023. This is despite many injury issues. It was eventually the strong core that helped them win the event. Interestingly, a few players in that squad have also made it to the upcoming World Cup. Not many expected them to be there in the first place. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two CSK players who surprisingly got selected for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Sisanda Magala
The South African speedster did not feature much for CSK in IPL 2023. However, he was a fine recruit and it will be interesting to see if he makes it to IPL 2024. However, for now, he will focus on his immediate assignment, which is the 2023 ODI World Cup.
A player who is mostly known to be a good T20 pacer, he was a surprise selection for the South African World Cup unit. Magala will join the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi and Gerald Coetzee in the pace department. It is unlikely that South Africa will make use of so many pacers in a tournament that will happen in India. Hence, it was a big surprise to see his name for the World Cup.
2) Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes is also one of the CSK players who surprisingly got selected for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Time and again, Stokes reiterated that he was not going to return from retirement. However, in a surprise turn of events, he made the decision to play ODI cricket again. It was a big surprise considering how vocal he had been about not withdrawing his retirement.
Nevertheless, his arrival is a big blessing for England. They now have a reliable batter in the middle-order. Of course, needless to say, Ben is a big-tournament cricketer and is bound to come good.
