The Hundred is the latest innovation in the shorter formats of the game. It was invented by the ECB and the tournament has done well till now. That said, the fans are still trying to understand this 100-ball event and it might take some time for them to fully consume it. Even for the T20 format, fans took quite some time to gauge it. IPL helped them a lot in this regard. Interestingly, a few players who were a part of the initial seasons of IPL are also in the initial seasons of the Hundred. A few are even playing in the ongoing edition. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two cricketers who played in IPL 2009 and are playing in the Hundred 2024.
1) Roelof van der Merwe – Welsh Fire
Roelof van der Merwe is one of the cricketers who played in IPL 2009 and is playing in the Hundred 2024. The Dutch cricketer played for RCB back in 2009. He helped them reach the finals in South Africa.
While he was a South African player back then, he joined the Netherlands later on. Even now, he represents them although his major employers are in the County. Considering his experience and skillsets, he has got an opportunity for the Hundred 2024. However, he is yet to play a game.
2) Ravi Bopara – London Spirit
Ravi Bopara has been playing in the T20 format for a while now. Back then when the format started, he gained prominence because of his attacking game with the bat. He also provided balance with his medium-pace.
39 years now, the Englishman is still a part of the mainstream game. However, in the IPL, his journey ended quite a few seasons ago. That said, considering his overall experience, it may not be a surprise if he comes back to IPL as a coach in the future.
